Introduction

Regardless of one’s opinions on Apple’s role in the tech industry today, it’s impossible to overlook the criticisms. These include the perceived stagnation in innovation with recent iPhone models, debates around planned obsolescence driving consumers to purchase new versions, and the increasing difficulty for users to repair their devices. The list of grievances could go on.

However, one of the important aspects that drew me to iOS development over a decade ago, is Apple’s introduction of the iPhone.

For better or worse, it has fundamentally shaped our current world. It’s undeniable that while mobile internet and touchscreen technology existed long before the iPhone, Apple’s mastery in integrating these technologies with its robust software ecosystem, truly revolutionised the user experience. This holistic approach was nothing short of genius, setting Apple years ahead of its competition at the time.

At 2023 Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference, a groundbreaking mixed-reality headset named VisionPro was unveiled. Apple is taking a step beyond traditional augmented reality headsets by introducing what it calls ‘Spatial computing’. This means using the space around you as your computer interface, not just screens, which has been the norm until now.
